Benjamin Angel

Benjamin Angel has been working for the European Commission since 1994. He is currently Director for the 'Treasury and financial operations'. During the last years, he has notably drafted and negotiated the creation of the various European sovereign firewalls (ESM, EFSM, EFSF) and of a macro-prudential supervision (ESRB). He was directly involved in the preparation of all the texts establishing a European Banking union (single supervisory mechanism, single resolution mechanism…). He has also been in charge of the creation and negotiation of the Juncker plan and negotiated the Regulation creating the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI), the European Investment Advisory Hub (EIAH) and the European Investment project Portal (EIPP). He is notably a member of the EFSI Steering Board, of the Board of Directors of the European Investment Fund (EIF), of the Supervisory Fund of the Marguerite and European Energy Efficiency Funds and is alternate member of the Boards of Director of the EIB and ESM.

He is a former member of the private offices of the Commissioners for economic and monetary affairs Yves-Thibault de Silguy (Santer Commission), Pedro Solbes (Prodi Commission) and Joaquin Almunia (first Barroso Commission). He is graduated from HEC Paris (specialization in finance), Sciences-Po Paris (specialization in economics) and has a master in political science and a PHD in law. He has written numerous books and articles on EMU and EU affairs.
